Dryness remains in parts of East Africa, while early season rains continue over lower Sahel
Africa Weather Hazards
Below-average rainfall since late February has resulted in moisture deficits throughout many parts of southern South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, and northern Tanzania.
Limited rainfall since March has led to developing moisture deficits across parts of Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, and southern Guinea.
Central Asia Weather Hazards
Temperatures
From May 30 – June 5, slightly above-normal (1-3°C) temperatures were recorded across Central Asia.
Meanwhile, maximum temperature averaged between 37-42°C throughout of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan. Next week, near-normal temperatures are expected to continue over the region, although maximum temperature could exceed 40 degrees Celsius over the low-lying areas of Central Asia.
Precipitation
From late May to early June, drier weather prevailed over the southern parts of Central Asia, while light to locally heavy (up to 50mm) rain fell in northern Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Over the past thirty days, rainfall anomalies showed marginal to small deficits over the central portions of Central Asia. The most recent vegetation indices indicated neutral to favorable conditions over most areas. During the next week, forecasts indicate a similar pattern over much of Central Asia. However, light to locally moderate showers are possible in northern Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
Central America and the Caribbean Weather Hazards
- Below-average rainfall since May has led to abnormal dryness in northern Dominican Republic.
